About Barry

Barry Golten trained as an Integrative Counsellor in the late 1990s and spent much of his early career applying those skills within the charity support sector. He worked as a support worker and then for 19 years as a manager, gaining extensive experience supporting individuals and teams. In 2008 he developed a strong interest in Solution Focused Brief Therapy and went on to qualify in that approach in 2012, after which he began offering therapy, coaching and training built on solution-focused principles.

In 2021 he joined KCA Training as a Trainer and Consultant delivering programmes in trauma, attachment and resilience, continuing to broaden his practice and teaching. Over time he has brought together a person-centred respect for every part of the self, a psychodynamic awareness of how past relationships shape present patterns, and a solution-focused confidence in clients' own resources to create change. He offers regular therapeutic relationships grounded in presence and trust and is willing to accompany clients on journeys of exploration, hope and possibility. Barry is registered with the BACP - the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Integrative approaches and online therapy

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a model that invites clients to notice and relate to different parts of themselves - for example protective, wounded or critic parts - so those parts can be heard and integrated. It is often useful for work with trauma, attachment difficulties and patterns that feel stuck.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy emphasises identifying strengths and small, achievable steps toward change rather than spending long periods analysing problems. It can help with stress, anxiety, motivation, life changes and practical goal-setting.

Finding the right approach is part of the therapeutic process and will be determined collaboratively. Barry will work with each person to identify which methods fit best with their needs, goals and preferences, and adapt the work as progress unfolds.

Offering sessions by video call, phone, live chat or text-based messaging makes therapy more flexible and accessible for different schedules and locations. These options allow clients to choose the format that feels most comfortable while maintaining continuity of care and making it easier to attend regular sessions with a registered professional.
